Creating a World-Class Biomechanics Research Centre

Dr. Nigg’s distinguished career involves multidisciplinary expertise in the field of biomechanics. Since joining The University of Calgary in 1981 after working in Switzerland, he has been responsible for creating a world-class biomechanics research centre with 65 full-time researchers. Dr. Nigg holds joint appointments in the departments of Medicine, Engineering and Physical Education, which have contributed to his success in measuring forces in and on the human body. His research includes the design of sport shoes and floor surfaces, improving the gait of amputee children and measuring stress on the skeleton, tendons, ligaments and other tissues. Dr. Nigg is regarded as the worlds leading researcher on sports shoe construction.
