One Man’s Exceptional Influence On Alberta’s Technology Community

For more than 20 years, Dr. Church has played an integral role in the development of science and technology in Alberta and Canada. His continued support and unrelentless commitment to the advanced technology community has served to assist in the growth and strengthening of an Alberta science and technology culture.

Numerous Contributions

Dr. Church is a founding member of The University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine, and his work as an educator has had significant impact on the teaching of the medical curriculum. He has also been a member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Medical Research Council of Canada, and is currently one of the co-vice-chairmen of the Premier’s Council on Science and Technology in Alberta. Dr. Church has served as a consultant to and sat on the boards of several biotechnology companies in Canada and United States in addition to operating his own ranching operation and livestock consulting company in Airdrie, Alberta. He is a past president of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, and a member of the Alberta Research Council’s board of directors.

Dr. Church’s contribution to the science and technology community, including the research, development and industrial sectors, is based on expertise and opportunities for scientific advancement. To that end, he has been the driving force behind the creation of many biotechnology companies. Today, he continues to direct and advise a variety of major biotechnology companies, and provincial and national technology organizations. His achievements have proven an inspiration to others in Alberta’s scientific community.
